Little Soldiers: An American Boy, a Chinese School, and the Global Race to Achieve by Lenora Chu. The author is ethnically Chinese but raised in America. She and her American husband are reporters in Shanghai and their son is being raised in Chinese schools there. She has a unique perspective on the Chinese educational and social community and their expectations on the students we teach. Well worth your time to read.
Young China: How the Restless Generation Will Change Their Country and the World Zak Dychtwald. I heard Zak speak at the Journey conference in Vegas and he was fascinating! He is an American that has lived in China for many years and studied the change in China’s young people and the huge growth in their economy. I have this book and am trying to find the time to read it! Maybe on the train ride to Journey DC!
Mao’s Last Dancer

“The extraordinary memoir of a peasant boy raised in rural Maoist China who was plucked from his village to study ballet and went on to become one of the greatest dancers of his generation. “
