I love using reward systems in class! They give my students a little brain break and we can have some fun. They encourage them and let them know when they are doing a good job.
We use 2 reward systems during classes: stars and a secondary reward system. The stars are built into the classroom and the students get 5 stars in every class. They are super important to the students as they can buy games, pets and other things with them on the VIPKid app. In every class, my students get all 5 stars. I find some reason to give them a star. In 3000+ classes I have not given 5 stars about 3 times.
The secondary rewards can be anything you want! Anything that they collect or make progress through works as a reward. So add flowers in a vase, cars around a racetrack, princesses in the castle, scoops of ice cream on a cone, putting together Mr. Potato Head, etc. You do not have to use the one suggested in the lesson and I usually don’t. They are either dumb or they take too much time.
I use printed rewards (click here for lots of printed rewards), real things, toys, animals, etc. I also love to use digital rewards that I show on my phone, tablet or through a program like Manycam or Camtwist. Learn more about those here.
However, in the hiring process, you need to approach the rewards a little differently. In the live interview and the mock classes, they want you to use a reward system that is also an extension of the lesson. They are expecting you to use it to teach new vocabulary words and even use complete sentences with it.
